Do-It-Yourself Maintenance Tips
- Clean up spills immediately. Because today's ranges are controlled by electronics, you need to clean up liquids immediately to avoid shorting the circuits.
- Do not use spray cleaners. Spray cleaners make things shine because they contain wax. However, the wax can cause problems with your range's ignitors and electronics.
- Use the self-cleaning setting sparingly. A large number of range repairs happen after a self-cleaning cycle. The extreme heat from self-cleaning is hard on your range's computers. Try wiping up spills instead.
Before you call for a repair
Just like your home computer, range computers can lock up after a power fluctuation. If you are having trouble with your range, try turning off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes to reboot the computer. This could save you a repair call.
