Do-It-Yourself Maintenance Tips

The Government has banned phosphates in all soap products.  So here are some helpful tips.

  • Always use the exact same soap. Phosphates have been replaced with either bleach or enzymes, but you cannot mix them (it makes concrete). Most brands come in both types, so be consistent and avoid the different sale item; it could cost you a service call.
  • All soaps have an expiration date. Check the date before you purchase any soap, especially sale items.
  • Do not use too much soap. There is no need to fill the cup. In most cases 1 Tbsp. is more than enough.

For drain problems, remove the air gap top (that silver dome on your sink) and inner cap to see if there is a clog. Fifty percent of all drain problems are a clogged air gap.
